Toyota Camry Hybrid

Consumer Reports Names Highest Gas Mileage Cars

Despite the fact that gas prices have fallen off some of theirhighs this year, many consumers are looking to buy a fuel efficient car to save their wallet in the future. Consumer Reports has responded to that demand by releasing a list of the best high-gas mileage cars, with the full report being available in the June issue. Consumer Reports weighed a number of factors, counting not just high mileage but also performance, reliability, and safety.

Toyota made a good showing in the issue, although sadly the Toyota Camry Hybrid was not included on the list. The Toyota Corolla did take the spot for best small sedan, while the Toyota Prius nabbed the spot for best family car. Still, the Camry Hybrid was not left completely out in the cold. The best upscale sports sedan was the Lexus HS 250, which is based very closely on the Toyota Camry Hybrid technology. So while the car itself may not have managed to get a top spot, the technology system that powers it certainly did.

Other notable mentions came from a number of other manufacturers, including the honda Fit taking the subcompact category, the Volkswagen Golf TDI for small wagons, and the Ford Escape Hybrid for small SUVs. As the economy tightens even as fuel prices rise, consumers are keeping a much closer eye on the mileage of their cars. Experts are predicting that the trend toward better fuel economy will only ramp up further in the months to come.
