2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid Shows Greatly Improved Fuel Economy

It appears that sometimes when it comes to increasing fuel efficiency, a little weight loss is all you need. Toyota has greatly improved the mileage of one of its flagship models, the Toyota Camry.

There are two notable improvements to the 2012 model, and both result in more bang for your buck in terms of fuel economy. The Camry Hybrid's Synergy Drive now sports more power across the board, with the electric motor output increasing to 105kW (a 30kW gain) and the gasoline engine moving up 2.5 liters of displacement to 156 horsepower and 156 pound-feet of torque. The total system output has increased about 13 horsepower from the previous year's model.

The Camry Hybrid has also slimmed down, dropping 300lbs from the previous year. The end result is that the hybrid model will provide consumers with 41 mpg ciry and 38 mpg highway. This makes the Camry much more competitive in its class, and shows that Toyota is paying attention to competitors like Ford who are constantly trying to push the mileage envelope.
